APPROVED!! (for real this time)

Only 7 days after getting our fingerprints done we received a letter in the mail this morning. I quote "You have been approved to adopt one child from the following Convention Country: Bulgaria"!! I tell ya, God is sooo good. We really thought the whole USCIS process would take a lot longer but the time was nearly half of what we expected! I only hope the referral process goes by that quickly :)! Now all that is left is to take our paperwork to the Secretary of State to get it apostilled. Unfortunately there is a new step in part of that process which includes mailing our FBI fingerprints off to the Dept. of State because the SOS will no longer apostille that document. Otherwise I'll be hand delivering everything else (assuming they let me do so). We officially have raised enough money to pay for the first half of the adoption. This is the part that includes everything to get us registered. Nothing else is due until we receive a referral. We will definitely be applying for some grants once we get registered. As always continue to keep us in your prayers!

New Goal: to be registered in Bulgaria by May 31st!!

  1. Hurray for progress!

Can you share a little more about your child parameters? Boy or girl or either and what age?

  2. Of course! We preferenced a girl from the ages of 1 to 4 yrs old. We are really hoping for a 3 or 4 year old to be honest. We are also hoping that going up a little in age will shorten the referral time. We are open to most correctable or manageable special needs that do not require major surgery or lifelong care. We are also open to any race or ethnicity and we also put that we were open to a child with a family history or mental retardation not including schizophrenia. Our agency suggested this because almost all children placed in orphanges of Roma ethinicity are considered to be MR since their parents have not been socially educated.

  3. Do you know if we have to include a cover letter or something specific with the FBI clearances when it gets sent in to be apostilled? I'm having trouble finding that info.

    1. I tried replying through e-mail but I'm not completely sure you received it. There is a form that goes with your FBI clearance. ITs is on the State.gov website. You go to Travel > More > Authentications and the half way down the form and program to open it is there to download. Hope you are able to find it. Ours is being delivered to The Dept. of State today, I'll let you know how long it takes to get it back! And if we have any problems.

  4. Thanks for sharing. I think those are very reasonable parameters for Bulgarian adoptions. You might even be able to find a waiting child soon. It is sad but true that many of the Roma kiddos get stuck with the MMR label even though they do not have it.
